Cops nab minor who stole bikes for ride
The Criminal Branch (Area I) unit of Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police (MBVV) arrested a 14-year-old underage boy who allegedly stole motorcycles for rides and threw them away after running out of fuel.
Alarmed by the increase in the number of bicycle theft cases, the Crime Branch Unit headed by Police Inspector Aviraj Kurhade and PSI Hitendra Vichare under the supervision of DCP (Crime) Vijaykant Sagar, scanned footage captured by CCTV cameras and activated its network of key informants in the area.
The efforts paid off and the team received a tip-off regarding the alleged involvement of an underage boy in the bike lift cases. The team kept watch and after checking his suspicious activities, arrested the 14-year-old boy from the Naya Nagar neighborhood of Mira Road on Saturday.
“Investigations revealed that the boy was stealing two-wheelers for rides and abandoning them once they ran out of fuel. cigarettes in locked stalls at night,” an investigator said.
It also emerged that the boy, from the village of Phulwari near the city of Dhangadhi in Nepal, had a fondness for Honda Activa bikes, as well as having a habit of cutting the seats off stolen two-wheelers before riding. abandon them.
Five of the ten bikes recovered by the police in different regions turned out to be Honda Activas. Police have not ruled out the boy’s involvement in other bike-lifting cases. While cases falling under articles 379 of the CPI have been registered in this context at the Naya Nagar police station, the boy will be brought before the Juvenile Court. Further investigations were ongoing.
