Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash – Milford – Delaware State Police

Milford, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in Milford Tuesday night.

On August 10, 2021, at approximately 8:24 p.m., a 1980 Kawasaki KZI motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old man from Milford was traveling southbound on Bay Road (SR 1) as it approached New Wharf Road. A 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV driven by a 38-year-old woman from Milford was traveling northbound on Bay Road (SR 1), in the right lane, just north of New Wharf Road. For unknown reasons, the motorcycle left the eastern edge of Bay Road heading south, headed south through the grassy median, entered the northbound traffic lanes, and went straight into in the trajectory of the Hyundai. The front of the Hyundai hit the right side of the Kawasaki. After the collision, the motorcycle came to a stop uncontrollably and came to rest on its left side. The Hyundai continued north, exited the eastern edge of Bay Road, and the front center struck a utility pole.

EMS transported the motorcyclist to a hospital in the area where he died of his injuries.

The Hyundai operator and the 19-year-old front passenger were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours during the collision investigation and the roadway was cleared.

This collision is still under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information about the accident should contact Master Corporal William Booth by calling 302-697-4454.
