First look at the 2022 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Raid prototype
Ryan nitzen | 23 November 2021
As more and more new bikes are announced at this year’s EICMA, the one that really caught our attention is the Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid 2022 prototype. Before we hope, yes, this bike is still a prototype, but it looks surprisingly like a hopped Tenere 700.
The Yamaha Tenere 700 is a serious contender in the mid-weight adventure bike market. It is certainly more of an off-road-oriented model, comparable to the KTM 890, Honda’s Africa Twin, etc. It’s by far one of the fastest growing segments in the industry, so it’s no surprise to see Big Blue playing an upgraded version of an already popular machine.
The Raid prototype appears to be equipped with just about every part from the GYTR Accessory Catalog. A full titanium Akrapovič exhaust system, oil cooler, oversized brakes and race-ready suspension are just the tip of the iceberg on the spec sheet. The photos also show a large dashboard with a full display of the road-book navigation. In short, the bike looks like what Yamaha said “Hmm, if we were to race the Dakar on a Ténéré, what would we throw at it?”. This specially designed machine is still only a prototype, but it certainly makes us wonder what the future of adventure driving, or racing, might bring.
