An uninsured and unlicensed motorcyclist has been arrested by police after hitting another motorcyclist head on on a residential street.
Craig Watson, 33, was driving along Skegby Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, when the collision occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 19, 2020.
Watson, who broke his ankle in the crash, had previously been seen riding and descending the road on his Suzuki off-road motorcycle.
The accident occurred as he approached the other motorcycle head-on and swerved too late to avoid a collision.
He then admitted to police that he was not allowed to ride a motorcycle and that he had no insurance.
Watson, of Thorneywood Avenue, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, later pleaded guilty to careless driving, driving without insurance and driving without a license.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday he was fined £ 1,000 and eight penalty points. He was also ordered to pay costs of £ 85 and an additional victim fine surcharge of £ 100.
PC Joel Hughes of Nottinghamshire Police said: ‘Watson was fully aware that he was not allowed to ride this bike on the road, but did so anyway – using it from in a way that put other road users at risk.
“People who illegally ride off-road motorcycles on our streets cause considerable noise nuisance to local residents and also put themselves at risk.
“We will not tolerate this kind of behavior and will continue our efforts to punish people who cycle where they shouldn’t. Violators can expect their bikes to be seized and potentially destroyed if they continue to flout the law in this way. “
