Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the CNG-powered derivative of the Celerio in the Indian market today. The factory-fitted CNG kit on this sedan will only be available in the VXI version. The Celerio VXI CNG has been priced at INR 6.58 lakh (ex-showroom)
The CNG kit will be offered with a 1.0-litre Dual VVT 3-cylinder petrol engine. The automaker claims that the Celerio with S-CNG technology offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 35.60 km/kg and has a CNG tank capacity of 60 litres.
The company claims that factory-fitted S-CNG vehicles are equipped with two interdependent ECUs (electronic control units) and an intelligent injection system. The vehicles are specially tuned and calibrated to deliver optimum performance and improved handling on all types of terrain, both on gasoline and CNG.
Speaking at the announcement, Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Maruti Suzuki has been a pioneer in the country to offer factory fitted CNG cars. We have the largest portfolio of 8 green models on the road and have sold approximately 9.50,000 S-CNG vehicles. Owning a factory-fitted S-CNG vehicle comes with standard warranty benefits and the convenience of Maruti Suzuki’s service network spread across India, which our customers find very comforting. With a focus on green mobility, we have seen a 22% CAGR increase in our CNG sales over the past five years. He added, “The launch of the all-new Celerio S-CNG will bring us closer to our ambition to spearhead the mass adoption of green vehicles in India. Interestingly, the S-CNG variant of the previous generation Celerio contributed over 30% of total sales. The all-new Celerio S-CNG with a new 3D organic sculpted design, energetic and spacious interior and S-CNG technology will provide customers with an affordable, safe and high-performance green vehicle.
