Additionally, when comparing the OEM sales figures above to April 2022, all showed positive growth except for Royal Enfield. Hero MotoCorp and Suzuki posted the highest rates at 17% and 11% respectively, while Royal Enfield saw a marginal decline of 1%.
The trend shows customers opting for commuter motorcycles and scooters over more upmarket models like what Royal Enfield sells, helping Suzuki outsell RE. Despite this demand, the world’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer managed to register an impressive growth of 167% compared to May 2021, selling 53,525 units compared to 20,073 units in May 2021.
Compared to May 2021, the sales trend shows that the Indian automotive market is growing and chip shortages have eased a bit. Also, with the slow opening of offices and the demand for employees to work from their desks, the demand for two-wheelers has increased, which has helped sales.
