Moorhead offers home improvement loan program – InForum

MOORHEAD – Eligible Moorhead homeowners can borrow $20,000 to $25,000 for home improvements.

The loan does not have to be repaid until the owner moves out or sells the house.

Qualifications for the loan include:

  • The loan is based on family size. The income limit for a two-person household is $58,450 and it increases with each family member.
  • The property must be over 15 years old.
  • Code required repairs must be made and lead paint hazards must be addressed as part of the project.
  • Mobile homes are not eligible.

Requests are on a first come, first served basis. The wait time for the project could be six to 18 months. To apply, visit cityofmoorhead.com or call 218-299-5375.
Homeowners considering home improvement projects can find additional resources from the Clay County Housing & Redevelopment Authority (claycohra.com or call 218-233-8883), Minnesota Housing Finance Agency’s Minnesota Fix Up Fund (mnhousing. gov) and the Lakes & Prairie Community Action Partnership (caplp.org or call 218-512-1558).

Residents can also get help with temporary or permanent access ramps for a household member with reduced mobility. There is no cost to eligible households, with income limits for a two-person household at $58,450 and above with more family members. The program is a partnership with the Freedom Resource Center and the Town of Moorhead Community Development Block Grant. A tenant may also be given a ramp with written permission from the landlord.
