Randy Krummenacher’s return to WSSP triumphs more than two years later
After more than two years, Randy Krummenacher broke the “fast” of victories in the Supersport World Championship this Saturday. The CM Racing man dominated the first race in Barcelona, contested in wet conditions.
Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti) was the leader at the end of the first lap, but in the next it was Manuel González (Yamaha ParkinGo) in the lead, he who started from pole position without being able to keep control in the first stages. . In the third lap, Loïc Arbel (Andotrans Team Torrentó / Yamaha) took the lead which he would keep until the seventh lap, taking advantage of the fact that he was one of the two to choose not to change tires.
The tire change strategy worked and Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros./Yamaha) managed to get ahead of those who entered the garage. However, he was penalized with an extra 25.845 seconds due to a pit lane violation.
Despite everything, the South African was passed on the track by Krummenacher, who aboard his Yamaha led from the seventh lap to the end. He would then reduce the goal by 16.226 seconds. Odendaal lost track on the last lap against González and Raffaele de Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura / Kawasaki), who completed the podium.
With the penalty, Odendaal placed eighth despite crossing the finish line fourth, which saw Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s Öncü and Philipp Öttl take the bottom two of the top five. Arbel finished sixth.
